Nomzamo Winifred Madikizela-Mandela has passed on into the bright sky at 81.

Not without her Imperfections, I only wish Nelson Mandela was gentler with the judgement of his Wife after she waited for him 27years while he was in Prison.
Not too many Women would have been that loyal and fervent, mobilizing people and chanting “Amandla” to thousands of South Africans who submitted to her leadership and tutelage as they wrestled against Apartheid. Winnie kept with the Struggle and that Struggle made the Heroism of Mandela iconic and historical, forever.

Did Mandela bow to the pressures of the West? If the Tables turned, would Mandela have made the same sacrifices Winnie made for him? Was Winnie as cruel as she was made to seem? Was Mandela right to totally not acknowledge Winnie in his Will at all and eventually leave her with Nothing?

Their bitter sweet Love Story and the controversies that trailed their Marriage and Activism are telling of the vagaries of Life and the flaws of even the greatest of men and women. Our Heroes are not infallible after all.

Papa Madiba, will you now reunite with your Woman now that both of you are candles in the Wind away from the prying eyes of all of us?

Winnie’s Ferocious Courage, Her Dignity and Her Everlasting Legacy are now resting in Power.
