OCCUPY NIGERIA 2012 VS NATIONWIDE PROTEST 2017. A DEMOCRACY DESTROYED.

In December 2011, President Jonathan called a Meeting of about 27 Nigerians including myself, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, Chief Olisa Agbakoba, Barr. Femi Falana, Bella Anne Ndubuisi and a couple others. He briefed us about the plan of his Administration to remove Fuel Subsidy in January 2012 and Dr. Ngozi Iweala, the Minister of Finance then, made a Presentation on the state of Nigeria’s economy to us.
I advised the President to create more job opportunities for Nigerians and ensure the removal is gradual in order to reduce the hardship Nigerians will face if Petrol Pump Prices increase astronomically. I also said that the Government had a trust deficit with the populace owing to the actions of some Members of his Kitchen Cabinet and so he should launch a sustained communication plan to educate the masses on what subsidy is and why Nigeria should set it aside.

Chief Agbakoba counselled GEJ not to remove subsidy until the government extensively diversified the economy and he further stated that Nigeria hcould generate revenue from other sectors aside Oil. He also opined that Nigeria could make $7 billion Dollars from the Maritime Industry if well structured and provided visionary leadership.
On Jan 1, 2012, I was driving back from Church when I heard on Radio that Oil subsidy had been removed and Petrol would cost N140.

The day after, Nigerians were up in arms. Hundreds of thousands of us. Across the Country.
Pastors, Entrepreneurs, Imams, Activists, Labour Unions, Entertainers, Politicians, Bus drivers, Market Women – all of us hit the streets and the Country shut down for a whole week.
GEJ was compelled to rescind his decision.
Pump prices returned to status quo.
We all were livid with Jonathan. They cursed him out.
I granted Interviews on TV and Radio expressing my disapproval of GEJ’s action.
Nobody lashed out at us nor threatened us. This 2017, Tuface and the common People of Nigeria decide to protest against the sorry state of our Country, a portion of Nigeria rise in Counter Protest against them. Our President is absent. The Police is issuing all sorts of warnings. We have been repressed into Silence and Compliance.
The Protest has now been Cancelled. Tuface is obviously perturbed that people may get killed, violence may overtake sanity and things may go awry.
We deserved the Ill treatment and oppression meted out to us by our elected Representatives.
